Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered out forSince Sep 29, 2026

Best builds

The Witcher 3's most recommended builds are a Euphoria alchemy build in Manticore or Cat gear (sword damage that grows with toxicity), a Griffin Signs build with Conductors of Magic, a Cat or Bear Whirl and Rend sword build, and a Wolf bleed and Igni hybrid. They were made for the original ability tree; Remastered (Sep 29, 2026) rebuilt the tree and rebalanced skill values, so their skills and gear still exist; KeenGamer's Remastered versions (Oct 7, 2026) add a Feline crit build with Bloodbath and a Griffin Yrden build with Magic Sensibilities.

The builds players most often call the best in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are a Euphoria build in Manticore or Cat gear, which turns potions and decoctions into sword damage; a Griffin Signs build that pushes sign intensity and adds sword damage to every Sign with the mutation Conductors of Magic; a Whirl and Rend sword build; and a Bear tank for Death March!. Every one of them was worked out on the original ability tree, and The Witcher 3 Remastered changed that tree on Sep 29, 2026: IGN's review update of Oct 2, 2026 says the revised trees make perks available earlier, "a page out of Cyberpunk 2077's book", and CD Projekt Red rebalanced the skills' values, effects and synergies. The skills, gear sets, mutagens and mutations these builds use are all still in the game, so the builds below still describe what to aim for; the exact numbers in older guides are not confirmed for Remastered as of Oct 14, 2026. How the tree works is on Ability tree.

Quick facts

Runewright Hearts of Stone's enchanter: Severance, Levity, Rotation, Preservation and more
Remastered status Same skills and mutations; values rebalanced; points reset; Synergy now in the General tree (KeenGamer, Oct 7, 2026)

What every build shares

A few skills turn up in nearly every build, as Neon Knight's guide to a build for each witcher armor (Feb 25, 2023) explains. Delusion is there not for combat but because it unlocks extra Axii dialogue options. Synergy, from the Alchemy tree (the General tree in Remastered, below), greatly raises the bonus from mutagens: more sign intensity in a Signs build, more damage in a sword build. It takes an investment to reach, so it is a late goal rather than an early one. Each build also takes its school's School Techniques skill from the General tree (Cat for light armor, Griffin for medium armor, Bear for heavy armor); in Remastered, Game8's ability list shows all six School Techniques with no prerequisite.

The other shared parts are the gear and the Runewright. Witcher school sets go from basic through Enhanced, Superior and Mastercrafted to Grandmaster, each tier crafted from the one before; Mastercrafted armor comes from Yoana at Crow's Perch and Mastercrafted swords from Hattori in Novigrad, and Grandmaster sets need level 40 and Lafargue in Beauclair. A Grandmaster set grants one bonus at three pieces and another at six. The Runewright, the Ofieri enchanter of Hearts of Stone, sells runewords and glyphwords that fill all of an item's slots; Neon Knight warns his quests are well above level 30 and his services are expensive. The sets are compared on Witcher gear sets.

Euphoria in Cat gear (fast attacks)

The Cat (Feline) build is about critical hits and fast attacks. Early points go into the Combat tree: Muscle Memory for fast-attack damage, Precise Blows for critical chance and damage, the adrenaline skills Razor Focus, Undying and Resolve, and Whirl, the spinning fast attack. Then Alchemy: Metabolic Control for 30 more points of toxicity, Acquired Tolerance (more toxicity for each alchemy recipe known), Hunter Instinct (critical damage with full adrenaline) and Killing Spree (critical chance for each kill in a fight). Neon Knight's version puts the Runewright's Severance on both swords to widen Whirl, uses the Blood and Wine silver sword Aerondight in place of the Cat silver sword once it is found, and ends with the mutation Euphoria, which raises sword damage and sign intensity with every point of toxicity. Troll, Ekimmara and Katakan decoctions carry the healing and critical chance; Cat armor has the lowest protection of the witcher sets, so the healing matters.

Griffin Signs

The Griffin build commits to Signs. Griffin School Techniques comes first, for sign intensity and stamina in medium armor; then nearly every point goes into the Signs tree, because each equipped Sign skill also raises intensity. The key skills are all four Aard skills, with Shockwave, which makes Aard strip a share of an enemy's health that grows with intensity, as the most important; Igni Intensity; Sustained Glyphs and Supercharged Glyphs for Yrden; Exploding Shield and Quen Discharge; and Delusion. The Griffin set's bonuses let Geralt cast two Signs in a row (three pieces) and make standing in Yrden boost sign intensity (six pieces). The mutation Conductors of Magic, which adds 50% of sword damage to every Sign while the sword is drawn, finishes it; Console Pulse's ranking also names Magic Sensibilities for Signs builds. The Runewright's Rotation on the armor makes Igni hit all around Geralt.

Bear with Levity: Whirl and Rend

The Bear (Ursine) set is the heaviest armor with the best resistances, which is why guides pick it for Death March!. Neon Knight's version is a sword build: the Runewright's Levity makes the heavy armor count as light, for fast stamina regeneration and the Cat School Techniques bonuses, and Severance on both swords widens Whirl and Rend. Its mutation is Metamorphosis, which gives a free random decoction, with no toxicity cost, every time Geralt applies a critical effect such as burning, bleeding or poison; it draws only from the decoctions in the inventory, so carrying just five favorites decides which ones he gets. A fire bomb such as Dancing Star triggers several in seconds. For a simpler Death March! build, the Grandmaster Bear bonus gives a chance of a free Quen when a shield breaks.

Wolf: bleed and Igni

The Wolf (Wolven) gear suits balanced builds that use swords, Signs and oils together. Neon Knight's Wolf build takes Muscle Memory and Precise Blows, the adrenaline skills Razor Focus, Resolve and Undying, and above all Crippling Strikes, which makes fast attacks cause bleeding every time; in the Signs tree, Delusion, Igni Intensity, Firestream (Igni's held mode) and Exploding Shield. Both Wolven swords are needed for the six-piece Grandmaster bonus, and both set bonuses work with bleeding. With Conductors of Magic as the mutation, Firestream adds half the sword's damage to its fire. (Inverse lists the Grandmaster Wolven bonus that lets one sword carry three oils.)

Manticore Euphoria (the endgame favorite)

Manticore gear arrives only in Blood and Wine, so this is an endgame build, and guides most often name it the strongest overall. It takes both fast and strong attack skills, Whirl and Rend, Razor Focus and Resolve, Cat School Techniques with Levity on the medium Manticore armor, Metabolic Control, Acquired Tolerance, Synergy and Fast Metabolism, plus Killing Spree and Hunter Instinct in the mutation slots. Its mutation is Euphoria, which Neon Knight says was weakened with the next-gen update of Dec 14, 2022 but is still among the strongest: the higher the toxicity, the higher the damage, and four decoctions (Troll, Katakan, Ekhidna, Ekimmara) keep Geralt healing while toxicity stays near its limit. The six-piece Manticore bonus is not needed, so Aerondight takes the silver sword's place.

Death March! picks

On Death March!, enemies have 80% more health and deal 230% more damage, per Gamer Guides, and meditation no longer heals. The usual answers are the Bear tank for its resistances and Quen, which Console Pulse's ranking picks for Death March!, or any build that keeps healing without potions: Neon Knight's builds lean on the Troll decoction (constant regeneration), Ekimmara (healing on hits) and Ekhidna (healing when using stamina). The difficulty levels are on Beginner's guide.

Building in Remastered

As of Oct 14, 2026, CD Projekt Red has said only that skills now have three ranks, unlock through prerequisites, and were rebalanced and in some cases renamed. Game8's Remastered list still shows Whirl, Rend, Crippling Strike, Shockwave, Supercharged Glyphs, Acquired Tolerance, Fast Metabolism, Metabolic Control, Synergy and all 12 mutations, Euphoria and Conductors of Magic among them, so each build above can be put together again. New Remastered build guides by creators such as NorZZa and LastKnownMeal appeared in October 2026; their specific numbers have not been checked here. Every save had its points refunded on Sep 29, 2026, which makes the first evening of Remastered a free respec.

KeenGamer's Rafly Wibowo rebuilt five builds for the 5.0 tree (KeenGamer, Oct 7, 2026), and his notes say what changed for builders: "Old point-by-point build guides no longer translate cleanly, because the 5.0 skill tree changed where skills sit and what they do." A skill now opens once Geralt owns the skill connected before it, not after a set number of points in its branch; every skill has three ranks; Synergy moved from Alchemy to the General tree and still boosts slotted mutagens, which still pair red with Combat, blue with Signs and green with Alchemy; and the tree "finally rewards casting different Signs back-to-back". His five, each with 12 equipped skills:

Feline fast-attack crits Cat set Bloodbath Muscle Memory, Three Strikes, Counterattack, Razor Focus, Resolve, Battle Frenzy, Undying, Frenzy; red mutagens; Katakan decoction
Griffin Yrden and Igni Griffin set Magic Sensibilities Firestream, Melt Armor, Sustained Glyphs, Supercharged Glyphs, Magic Trap, Catalyst, Chain Reaction, Active Shield; blue mutagens; Petri's Philter
Manticore poison and Euphoria Manticore set Euphoria Poisoned Blades, Toxic Shock, Protective Coating, Acquired Tolerance, Metabolic Control, Tissue Transmutation, Side Effects, Volatile Compound; green mutagens; two or three decoctions
Forgotten Wolven spellsword Forgotten Wolven set Conductors of Magic Muscle Memory, Strength Training, Razor Focus, Resonance, Catalyst, Melt Armor, Exploding Shield, Attack Is the Best Defense; red and blue mutagens
Ursine tank for Death March! Bear set Mutated Skin (Second Life late) Strength Training, Crushing Blow, Sunder Armor, Counterattack, Razor Focus, Resolve, Undying, Sun and Stars; red mutagens; Archgriffin decoction

Each also takes its school's School Techniques and Synergy. The shape matches the classic builds above: Euphoria for alchemy, Griffin gear for Signs and Bear for Death March!. The main shift is the Signs build, which leans on Yrden glyphs and chains Signs together instead of Aard's Shockwave. KeenGamer does not give the skills' Remastered values.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best build in The Witcher 3? Guides most often name Manticore Euphoria as The Witcher 3's strongest build: sword damage that rises with toxicity, kept safe by healing decoctions. Griffin Signs with Conductors of Magic and Cat or Bear Whirl and Rend builds are close behind.

What is the best build in The Witcher 3 Remastered? No single build is agreed for The Witcher 3 Remastered's rebuilt tree. KeenGamer's Remastered builds (Oct 7, 2026) are a Feline crit build with Bloodbath, a Griffin Yrden and Igni build with Magic Sensibilities, Manticore Euphoria, a Forgotten Wolven spellsword with Conductors of Magic and an Ursine tank for Death March!.

Did Synergy move in The Witcher 3 Remastered? Yes. In The Witcher 3 Remastered's 5.0 tree Synergy sits in the General tree instead of Alchemy, and it still boosts the bonus from slotted mutagens, KeenGamer reports.

What is the best Signs build in The Witcher 3? The Witcher 3's classic Signs build wears Griffin gear, equips all four Aard skills with Shockwave, Supercharged Glyphs for Yrden and Igni Intensity, and uses the mutation Conductors of Magic to add half of the sword's damage to every Sign.

What is the Euphoria build in The Witcher 3? The Euphoria build in The Witcher 3 uses the Blood and Wine mutation Euphoria, which raises sword damage and sign intensity with every point of toxicity, together with Acquired Tolerance, Metabolic Control and the Troll decoction to stay alive at high toxicity.

What build is best for Death March in The Witcher 3? On The Witcher 3's Death March!, Bear (Ursine) gear's resistances and Quen, or any build with the Troll, Ekimmara and Ekhidna decoctions for constant healing, is the usual choice.

Do I need Blood and Wine for the best builds? Mostly yes. The Witcher 3's strongest builds rely on Blood and Wine's mutations and Grandmaster gear, and both expansions have been free for every owner since Aug 25, 2026.
